This full-time permanent role will be based in Perth, with regular travel to our Exploration projects in the Goldfields, Paterson, and Kimberley regions of WA (currently) You will be working a Monday-Friday week (DiLs accrued with field visits as applicable). THE ROLE

Due to a review of the Health and Safety function within the IGO Exploration team. We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join our Exploration H&S team. The key purpose of this role is to provide support, guidance and technical advice to line management and field staff in relation to safety management to ensure that the exploration team maintains a safe workplace/environment across its locations.  A key component of the role is in assisting line management and field staff in developing and maintaining compliance with major hazard critical controls and providing assurance of control effectiveness

Whilst fulfilling the above, primary accountabilities will also include: 

  • To be recognised as a credible leader in the field of safety by spending time on the ground and understanding roles of employees and the exposures/hazards/risks which are associated with their given task scope, be able to identify critical controls and ensure those controls are in place
  • Support the effective uptake and utilisation of the Safety and Wellness Management System in the field and during planning for projects/campaigns
  • Assist in ensuring all locations have an emergency response process which is tested at a predetermined frequency
  • With a focus on preventing injury, assist line management with/overseeing the injury management process for the exploration department
  • Establish and maintain effective lines of communication within the organisation
  • Take ownership for your performance and learning and development to achieve departmental and company goals; and
  • Work closely and collaborate with other IGO personnel within the immediate team and across the business.

 

YOUR EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will be collaborative, approachable, and adaptable. This position will suit an experienced individual with the following key experience:

  • 5+ years H&S experience, within the exploration/mining environment – demonstrated track record of field work in remote locations across the Exploration portfolio
  • High degree of computer and Health and Safety System literacy
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving, lateral thinking and analytical skills with a high level of attention of detail
  • Excellent Communication skills, both written and verbally
  • Ability to impart knowledge, coach, mentor and influence others
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Good planning skills with a high level of adaptivity
  • Understanding and experience of Emergency management in an Exploration setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and literacy skills
  • Demonstrated time management skills and a keen attention to detail
  • Current First Aid qualification desirable
  • Current ‘C’ Class Manual Western Australian Drivers Licence (‘HR’ Class is preferred)
  • UTV and Defensive 4WD training highly desirable
  • Willingness to contribute to the success of the team whilst supporting the IGO company values
