After completing my Commerce degree and very early in my career I worked in generalist HR roles across financial services and not for profit. I was always drawn to recruitment, finding it the most fun part of my day, my particular area of interest was not only meeting people and finding out about them but also learning about each of the jobs I was recruiting for. I eventually decided to specialise in recruitment, moving into a boutique consulting firm and then internal Talent Acquisition roles. I now feel so fortunate to be part of IGO, a clean energy mining and exploration company that is truly focused on Making a Difference. What I have loved about this role is the challenge it is providing me, meeting so many clever and talented people and finding equally amazing Talent out there to come and join us!

My current role is as Talent Acquisition Advisor for IGO, specifically sourcing talent at the technical, professional and trade level for our Exploration, Corporate and Nova teams. I focus on bringing the right talent in to the company; values, behaviour, care, teamwork and respect are a priority in our decision making. Candidate care is a top priority for myself and my colleagues and we aim to ensure that everyone has a positive experience throughout the recruitment process.

I genuinely love meeting new people, interviewing candidates, finding out about them and their motivations and whether they will be the right addition to the team. I get to meet some really interesting people and I also love working with the Hiring Managers in the business on strategies to best fill their vacancies. I have learned so much since joining IGO through the project work I get to do and also the ongoing learning and development we have access to. There is a work from anywhere policy, so I have the flexibility to decide how I structure my home and office time and I have the autonomy to do my job and achieve what is required. Oh, and our office is a beautiful place to come to work at every day.

This might not seem like a career-topping achievement to a lot of people, but it meant the absolute world to me. I was a finalist in the 'Inclusion and Care' category at IGO's 2022 Making a Difference Awards. The category I was nominated in is self-explanatory really but what it meant to me was that in a short space of time, I had been able to impact other people and make them feel cared for or valued. I was new to the mining industry when I started at IGO, and although I had so much to learn and felt behind everyone else, very quickly I was made to feel that my professional opinion and expertise in recruitment mattered. I was joining a new industry, a new group of highly skilled professionals, I had so much to learn, and I worked hard. It was a career highlight for me that during such a steep learning curve I was able to positively impact other people.
