About Kate M.

Key experience
From studying nutrition to stumbling into recruitment, which I love!
I have always loved science and I enjoy staying fit and healthy, so studying Nutritional Science was an obvious choice for me. However, the reality of life after university was a little different to what I expected and I started looking for something more. Whilst looking for my next career move I was interviewed by a recruitment agent who offered me a role with their company recruiting for science based roles. I absolutely loved it and would never have thought that this was even a career path. I have never looked back! Since then I have moved into internal recruitment roles across a number of industries including banking and finance, professional services and now mining. I have recruited for Graduates right up to C-suite Professionals. Now that I have found mining I am here to stay! Mining allows me to utilise my love of learning new things with my love of people and building relationships. Every day there is something new to learn and no two days are the same.
Current position
I lead the Talent Acquisition Team in hiring the best people possible.
My role as Manager of the Talent Team is to support them to hire the best talent they can find. The Talent Team is responsible for working collaboratively with the business to deliver efficient talent acquisition activities including attracting, selecting and hiring of high calibre people as well as promoting IGO to potential candidates. I currently have 3 direct reports as well as a portfolio of roles that I recruit for. My role also has a focus on process improvement and candidate attraction across IGO. We are a dynamic team working in a fast paced environment but we also like to have a lot of fun while at work. We are passionate about candidate care, regardless as to whether or not you are the successful candidate, we want everyone to have a great experience when dealing with our team.
Main motivation
The best part about my job is the people.
The best part about my job is the people. I have an amazing team who are supportive of each other and I get to talk to people every day who share my passion for IGO and everything that it stands for. I love working for a company that truly wants to make a difference. IGO puts its people, and the planet, at the forefront of every decision they make and we live our purpose and values every day. I feel proud to have an impact on IGO's success as a company by hiring great people, who share IGO's values and purpose and are aligned to our long term strategy. IGO also has a work from anywhere policy which allows me to balance my work and life commitments.
Top advice
Just be yourself!
IGO is a values based organisation and throughout our recruitment process we will be looking at how you align to those values. When applying to IGO try to demonstrate this in your resume and cover letter, stand out from the crowd! When applying to IGO it is equally as important for you to get to know us as much as we would like to get to know you. If you are selected for an interview do some research on IGO and be inquisitive by asking questions that demonstrate your current knowledge of IGO.
Greatest achievement
I was a finalist for the IGO Making a Difference Awards in 2022.
At IGO we have our annual "Making a Difference" Awards where employees nominate their peers for awards aligning to certain categories. Finalists are notified ahead of a black tie gala event where all employees are invited to celebrate the finalists and the winners are announced. It is IGO's version of The Oscars! Whilst I didn't take out the the title I was honoured to be nominated by my peers as a finalist for the Leadership Award in 2022. It is a fabulous evening and something we all look forward to each year. This is another example of how IGO put people first and it is so wonderful to celebrate other IGO employees for their success over the past year.
